University of South Carolina

Purple Martin Phenomenon

At night, the Purple Martins take flight! Each summer, the skies over Bomb Island on Lake Murray come to life as the Purple Martins arrive for their summer vacation in what’s known as the Purple Martin Phenomenon. It’s estimated that over one million birds venture north for the summer to roost on the island, giving spectators a rare look at one of nature’s true phenomenons. Dreher Island State Park

Dreher Island State Park spans three islands, 348 acres and provides access to 12 miles of Lake Murray shoreline. Visitors will find recreational water activities, nature trails and some of the best striped and large-mouth bass fishing spots, all only 30 miles from Columbia. It has long been a popular location and launching spot for major, national fishing tournaments.

For those wanting to take a pause from lake life for a day to see the town; Downtown Lexington has activities for everyone with great restaurants for foodies, date nights, and families. The Icehouse amphitheater with concerts, festivals, and other entertainment, great shopping and so much more.

Little Mountain

A picturesque small town located in Newberry County in the midlands of South Carolina. With a quaint village atmosphere.
