Lake Murray

Lake Murray, known as “The Jewel of South Carolina,” is 50,000 acres/78 square miles in size with 650 miles of shoreline. It measures 41 miles by 14 miles at its widest point. The lake stores 763 billion gallons of water up to 180’ deep with 63 islands. It is a major recreation destination for residents and visitors to the Midlands of SC. Lake Murray offers some of the best boating, water skiing and swimming in the Southeastern US. It also has some of the best freshwater fishing in the nation, playing host to some of the most renowned fishing tournaments in the world – including the Walmart FLW Tour. In 2014, the Forrest Wood Cup (and a check for $500,000) was won by Lake Murray’s own Anthony Gaglairdi with a total of 51 pounds, 2 ounces.
